  • Proposed Conceptual Framework

  • Continuum of Engagement

  • This framework combines the Hossler and Gallegher’s (1987) three-phase model for college choice with the Yosso’s (2005) Community Cultural Wealth model to illustrate the college choice process of a student in a pre-collegiate program. The framework shows a student in the moving from the predisposition to search phase with influence from the parent/guardian on their decision making process. The line from the program to to student also represents the influence on student as they being go through the phases. Parent engagement efforts are represented by the red dotted line from the program to parents. The parents are also shown with influence lines connecting them to each of six forms of community cultural wealth. Lastly, the line from the program, intersecting the each line from the community cultural wealth sources depicts potential engagement efforts from the program that may draw upon, leverage or compliment these influences on the parents/guardians.
