    CHILDREN’S BOOK AWARDS

  • Informational books are hard to define, but they attract the attention of children, teachers, librarians, and parents. They suggest many experiments and activities for children.

  • These books are factual and accurate.

  • Examples of informational books

    e.g. encyclopedia, readers digests, charlie brown encyclopedia, national geographic,discovery,. These books, suggest many creative ideas for story telling.

  • reasons why children read comics:

    1. imitation
    2. plenty comics available
    3. sometimes, there are homes with too few interesting reading materials but contain comics which make them the only available resource for children
  • Children’s rooms in libraries are important physical places that foster learning in the mind’s of children. They must be well decorated and furnished for children’s pleasure and enjoyment.This is where story hour occurs.

  • Story telling,

    • Normally lasts 45 to 60 minutes
    • Adults and children separate and adults go to adults section. Children listen to the story.
    • There is no interruption during story telling.
  • children’s story hour objectives:

    • Educate children on best stories in children’s literature
    • Give children a chance to listen well to stories
  • Story Hour in the classroom

    • is an activity usually correlated with a lesson in literature, the social studies, or in other subjects.
    • Storytelling is as old as the INSTITUTION OF THE FAMILY. In other words, imagine the when the human family started, so did storytelling. E.g. cave men, “adam and eve with cain and abel?”

      • Mothers made stories to serve as warnings and reminders of good behaviour to children.

      • Fathers stories were more factual and more about daily activities, fears, hopes, courage and observations. These started to become stories of heroes and legends

    *They fired the hearts of young men with the novel ambition to excel their elders in fortitude and valor.
