  • Bus Ride from Malacca to Johor Bahru

Malacca is one city in Malaysia that has deep roots in history. A visit to this city will definitely take you back in time to witness the adventures and discoveries during Malacca’s golden age. There are plenty of historical sites in this city that has been regarded as the UNESCO World Heritage site in the year 2008. However, it is not just the cultural attractions but the city is also home to some of the most revered modern attractions like Water Theme Parks and Cultural Parks. The city has plenty of heritage buildings that stand alongside modern infrastructure making it a pleasant site for the eyes where you can immediately compare the history of Malacca and its present.

When I visited Malacca, I could practically experience the imprints of the British, Portuguese and the Dutch forces that were left behind in the forta, museums, churches and towers. Make sure to visit the Portuguese Square and the St. Johns Fort. It will be quite apt to say that the city is one place where different cultures have met and fused together from several years. Apart from the Portuguese influence that is quite visible on the city’s walkways there are also Chinese descendants living here that have adopted the local Malay culture. Being in the vicinity of one of the most beautiful city of Malaysia, Johor Bahru it is known to witness more than 20 million visitors in a single year. This has led to modernisation of routes and travel options between the two grand cities.

Initially I was supposed to travel to Johor Bahru for my tour there via air. But based on the recommendation of a friend I decided to travel to the city by Bus. I booked my Bus tickets from this website called https://www.redbus.my/bus-tickets/malacca-to-johor-bahru . The process was quite convenient as I did not have to visit the ticketing booth of the Operator. I also made the payments online allowing me to just hop on to the Bus at the departure point.

There are about 3 Operators who ply daily buses between Melacca to Johor Bahru – Starmart Express, Mayang Sari Express and SS International Express are the Operators plying between these two cities. Mayang Sari Express and SS International Express are economy coach Operators and Starmart Express is the only Luxury Coach Operator on this route. Starmart Express has about 7 buses pling throughout the entie day starting from 7:30 am in the morning till 1:00 pm in the afternoon. The cost of the tickets are a little on the higher side starting from MYR25 and the Operator truly justifies this by offering a host of amenities in the Bus. There are just 25 seats in a single bus making space for ample of leg room for you to spread out and sit. The total duration of the journey is about three and a half hours. However, I would recommend you to book a bus between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm when the traffic on the streets will be comparatively less.
