    • Cap at Level 3 (Baron) for now
    • Alternately set Baron to 4, make “landed noble” a ranked position between Knight and Baron? Nienna
    • Hm. Might be a neat idea to make Title 2: Household Knight (e.g.: One that lives in the land/house of the Baron, and Title 3: Landed Knight. (What is it called again? Bannerman? Where is my Pendragon Rulebook when I need it?)
      • Problem: People bought Title 2 with other expectations perhaps. Then again, even if they did, reality is they DON’T have lands in and around Prospect, so it might actually be a better representation of “weight”. -- Keris

  • AKA: The big Mess

  • County of Ember Skies

    • Uniformly Unseelie
    • House: Fiona
    • “Count/Baroness”: Jaxon
  • County of Reflective Dawn

    • Uniformly Seelie <— Neutral/Seelie-friendly.
    • Commoner friendly too.
    • House: Scathach
    • “Count/Baroness”: Nienna
  • County of Emerald Dale

    • Predominantly Seelie <— Shadow-Court aligned under Claire.
    • Uniformly VERY Unseelie
    • House: None
    • “Count/Baroness”: Claire
  • Water

    • I guess technically Lodestone Islands are out there, unclaimed.
    • Islands are not on Dreaming grid. I’ve intended to play with them as well. - Nienna
      • Not True. Jump to Lion’s Reach. Go OO for Open Ocean. Go CI for Cluster of Islands: Tadaa, Loadstone. -- Keris

    • Plot ran where old Countess tried to annex it. LR forces kicked them off. Apparently A&D’s Seer (whose name I forgot) wanted to run a follow up plot where either Emerald Dale and/or LR both try to establish a presence there. Apparently no other players bit. There was talk (on and off) to establish a a “pirate” Commoner freehold there that does the balance-of-power thing between LR and Emerald Dale, blackmailing protection money from both to not disrupt merchant ships and preying/racketeering on smugglers.
    • Heard mention of this freehold idea. May be worth exploring IC in PrPs. I’ve got at least two marine ones related to the islands approved to go. -Nienna
      • Problem is the hen-egg problem again, I think. There is no ‘Commoner’ leader around to claim it (and a balefire ontop of it), hence no commoner/pirate groups form, which can’t claim a freehold, which means nobody can be a leader because there are no groups to lead, etc.

I don’t know who owns it, or what plots beyond the Kierra one happened. I know I heard whispers of plots, but couldn’t tell you what they were about. By that point, I think I’d gotten a little pissed off by certain people, RL bit, and I just stepped back a little. -- Kenna

  • Desert: Claire, I think, supposedly is out here. Not sure what County is there though.

    • Desert: Jaxon / Burning Skies
    • Emerald Dale will connect through the forest, which puts it in Nienna’s personal Autumn World homestead area.
    • Both are the Desert to the SOUTH tho, (bordering on the Kingdom of Feathered Snake, if I am not mistaken), not to the EAST (Kingdom of Burning Sands, Nunnehi Territory.)
    • Emerald Dale borders on KotFS (Mexico). East isn’t clear - would like to see us define the Nunnehi territory. KoBS goes to the California state line, which is no where near here?
  • Kenna’s Draft:

Questions about a few things that came up in discussion with Nienna and Keris while looking at the wiki and plotting what needs to be updated/changed. I have written Chrissy a @mail to see about getting input from her on the wiki as well since some areas that need fixing, touch on her stuff.

I suggest there be a slight revamp to things as they are right now. This would go along with the news for theme being written that Nienna suggested as well. There’s a lot of broken things in the sphere, and to make it healthy again so it can move forwards, a slight jumpstart needs to be done. I’m not talking retconning anything, or huge drastic changes either. Clear information for people, mostly.

  • The big one is Titles:

We have seen what happens when you have Count/ess who disappear and leave the area in limbo. Suggestion is to keep it capped at Title 3: Baron/ess. We have a NPC Duke in the area. Shift him out, put in a NPC Count/ess, and leave it at that so you don’t have two levels of NPCs going on.

    • Ducal ranks make sense IC for San Diego’s size, pointless given sphere structure and accessible for NPC. Erase one or the other. - Nienna

    • Not sure what you guys are getting at: They won’t do away the “PC Leadership” ruling just for Changeling, so eventually there might be the whole Count/ess as PC again. Point is, it cannot be such a topdown thing again where basically you leave the “vanguard” hold all the strings, and the rest can go screw themselves. Which is set up so it does not happen anymore, with the ability of people to pick the then-PC Count to swear allegiance to, or stay under Ducal protection and/or even defect, complete with the lands to a neighboring County! What they might want to prevent is those counties getting PC Leaders AS WELL. The whole game is based on laissez faire, if wherever you turn you have to tweak your PC to fit someone’s (more or less half-brained) idea of what changeling is, it is robbing it of one of the core principles of the game (and would be one reason I’d consider stop playing all together, for example). Keris

  • Pendragon to the rescue:

    • Knight, Vassal: A vassal knight is one who has his own manor to oversee; he lives off of its income.
      • Banneret: A banneret is a landed knight who has several other knights who follow him in battle. He is allowed to have a small banner on his lance to serve as a rallying point for his men.
    • Knight, Household: Household knight is the most common form of knighthood. The knight lives in his liege lord’s castle and serves as a guard there, both as bodyguard to the king and as the standing army.
    • Thanes:
      • Sergeant: A sergeant is a combatant who is outfitted as a knight, but who is not a nobleman. These men generally serve as mercenaries during the warring season, and live off their earnings the rest of the year (though many are also bandits during the off-season…).
      • Man-at-Arms: A Man-at-Arms is a professional, elite soldier, generally not a nobleman or descended from noblemen, but respected for his skill.
  • I know there are three who are taking up baronies in Counties adjacent to Lion’s Reach. Again, cap them at Baron/ess. Basically they hold the lands that connect to the edge of Lion’s Reach. I wouldn’t allow them to say they hold the County Seat. Keep the Count/ess out of it again.

(And yes, part of me semi-thinks having people in these other counties is a headache to start with on a game when you should be more focused on one area! Otherwise, you get too spread out, and that just screws things up.)
Keris says: 'Don't fully agree with that.'

Take for instance, the wiki for Ember Skies — at first reading the information for Jaxon? You take down a Countess, then you generally are put in that position. So while he’s listed as a Baron, many will confuse him as Count. Especially seeing that he is supposedly holding the County Seat. Again… headache waiting to happen there. Count/ess should hold the area where County Seats sit. Not barons. You’re soon going to end up with people pushing to have Title 4 in these areas, and then someone is going to want Title 4 over Prospect/Lion’s Reach… and what stops them then from trying to seek the Ducal position? And what happens when once again, these people idle out, and they leave their ‘county’ hanging since they are now over a LARGE area?

    Keris says: 'Add this?':

Also it might be benefital to encourage -- if not make it mandatory -- that titled PC map out their fiefs as well, e.g.: A Baron should have 1-3 additional fiefs apart of his own 'land' (the Baronial Seat) that are granted to Knights and/or Thanes. If they have bought NPC knights with the Allies BG, then those should state some stats (Kith, Court, leaning, Holding-level) for the NPC and the mood/nature of the Fief. If they do not have enough BGs to statt them all, they should be up for grabs by PCs (pending their agreement and oathing or whatever they might wish to impose).
  • Wanting to clean up some of the problems that came up here lately as I get active again on Kenna and begin to make some plans on what to do with her barony and really not interested in seeing the same problems that we’ve already dealt with, hit the sphere again and kill it.

  • Barony of Triple D

  • Fiefdom of Ebony Clocktower

    • Former Aisling’s Claim, University Student Thingy
  • Barony of Tethys’ Grove

    • Chrissy’s Domain? Is it?
  • Fiefdom of Ebony Spire/Chimera

    • I assume it is not a Barony.
    • If Kenna takes hold of it, it is technically a Fiefdom/Knight Household/Holding?
  • Commoner-freehold Rhapsody

    • Lost In Time Market supposedly build by A&D, with the help by the neighboring Counties and involvment of the Duke. So. How “Commoner” is it really?
    • It surely is part of the Establisment, instead of a …what the fuck is it called? A Non-alligned, only paying lip-service to (commoner-)nobles anachists Freehold? (ed.: A mew. that’s what WW calls it. Go figure)
  • Dutchy(Seat) of Caer Buillemilis

    • Who the eff named this anyway? I almost broke my fingers
    • A&D. Scottish Gaelic for ‘Sweet Blow’ or ‘Sweet Shock.’ That’s an imperfect translation. It sounds like a whorish crackhouse. -- Nienna

    ———>

    Hah!

  • Barony of Weeping Leaves

  • Barony of Cranesfell

  • Barony of Dusty Rivers

  • Barony of the Gilded Wheel

  • Barony of Mirrored Shores

  • Barony of Twisted Oaks

  • Barony of Painted Stone

  • Adjacent county territories make a good template for baronies. Throw in D3 and the maps are already made. Counties under a ducal structure is merely an additional level of political power to what’s already there, and will have absolutely no impact on RP or sphere interaction whatsoever. Sure, it’s fun to have Countess Lollipop or Count Candycane as a PC… for about three seconds. - Nienna

NPC/PC fiefs may be unnecessarily complex.

The problem with not specifiying the subdevisions of Baronies (or Counties) is the “micromanagement” that happened with A&D. There is the tendency for players to think they can control and govern all aspects of “their teritories” (the whole County, the whole Barony) when in fact, all they control is their “Seat” and the other fiefs are dictatorial domains of whoever it was given to by oath or heritage. So the idea here is to drive ‘home’ that you can set general policies for the Barony, but you cannot ban Knight X from taking in PC Y or from allowing Kinain to wear blue or whatever else, other than apply (usuall gentle) political pressure on the Knight. They might Icly think they are Louis XIV, but they are really really not, doubly true on the Baronial level, less true on Duchy or High King Level. -- Keris

Authority might need to be spelled out clearly in what a baron can(‘t) do - never harmful. Another idea, spell out what the positions in the court do on the wiki, to further clarify different levels of political power. Micromanagement is a problem both ways. - Nienna

  • Fold into another barony. - Nienna

That’s what was implied. It was originally a “fief” under the direct control of the County. Basically Aisling was a non-titled commoner “knight” of the County that had been given land. Since she was not a combat PC, she wasn’t a Thane per se. Since it did not have its own freehold/holding, she was more like a ‘peasant’ that worked the ‘field’ there. Or perhaps a better analogy would be a ‘free woman’ under ancient irish law. Not sure if she was oathed. -- Keris

  • It’s Chrissy’s, yes. She supposedly bought Sideshow, and thus took over that freehold.
Per Chrissy, the Sideshow has a rath and entrance to the Dreaming. No balefire exists. The purchase was to ensure a “sphere” holding. Wouldn’t Rhapsody be a better choice? -- Nienna
Perhaps, but if Chrissy wanna keep Sideshow, then that’s fine. It could even be given a Balefire, if she has the Holding BG. there is no County Seat, however, currently in that County, so that might revert to Rhapsody, which was the origianal, ancient County Seat. But that would leave us without a Commoner-run freehold. (Damnit, what were those called?) -- Keris
But if you look, Grove of Tethys has been giving a Level 3 Balefire. Or the possibility for one. It’s in a +note on that room. -- Kenna
Grove of Tethys is indeed a Level 3 Freehold. Alala’s absurd assertion that she and Dyson SNUFFED OUT THE BALEFIRE was retconned as soon as she logged off. Currently the Grove of Tethys is part of Chrissy’s holdings. -- DropBear

  • It’s not a barony, but a freehold. It was to be set up as the information gathering group. Roxy and Mongo are gone, basically. Kenna is active, andwill be seeking others to help with it, thus the possible conversation with Keris, Uriel and Nienna. If there’s Shadow Court nearby, then having this might be helpful. Right now, it’s all been @chowned to me from The Chimera mundane ‘club’ to the Ebon Tower freehold. -- Kenna

  • Then I suppose it is a fief she can give out to “knights” or Thanes. I assume the Balefire there is…what? level 2? -- Keris

  • It’s a level 3 balefire at the Ebon Tower. -- Kenna

  • I like to see this made more into a commoner freehold. Break the ties that any nobles have to it. Sure, they helped get it set up, but that was it. And it was more a combined effort than just nobles.

Either you will want/need a commoner warden to keep an eye, or leave it totally to the NPC guardian. You do something stupid there, and well… you are crunchy and good with ketchup!

Suggest: neutral commoner Freehold. Encourage a commoner motley or individual to act as its overseer, answerable to the Duchy/County. -- Nienna

  • I have no idea, but I’m guessing it’s the freehold? OR something. I see it used and that of Setting Sun, so may wanna get some information to be able to distinguish this better. Also, is there an IC freehold for this on the grid? Curious.

    • Caer Buillemilis is the NPC ducal seat, which sees next to no use. Why not delete it/make it the county?
    • +hangouts/jump Caer Buillemilis - it exists and sees very little use. It’s named as “Duchy of the Setting Sun. -Nienna
    • It sees no use, because the reason it was created (A&D’s overbearing presence) left. Also whoever petitioned for some way to obtain land that is not directly hanging off the coat-tails of A&D apparently got mobbed out of the game as well. I tend to dislike “let’s delete this shit!” approaches. Especially since it would just drop a bridge on continuity AGAIN. Stick with it. Spruce it up. Leave it as a overflow/pressure valve or, if all else fail, run a plot that burns it to the ground, but don’t just handwave crap in and out of existance. MUSH qouta is cheap. There is virtually no such thing as objects “just taking space” anymore. We’re not in 1990 anymore :P And the server farm probably IS in Kansas.-- Keris

I see no good reason to get rid of Caer Buillemilis. The Duke and Duchess should be important, if distant, figures in the local political landscape. That said, I fully intend to map in some Counties with NPC Counts/Countesses as a layer between. If nobody wants to PLAY in Caer Bulimia that’s no reason to excise it from the grid, it can still be used for major events (Ducal Ball perhaps?). -- DropBear

  • Caer bulemia is on +hangouts, yes. Apparently so is the County Seat of Ember Skies. -- Keris
Emerald Dale is in the building nexus. So is Reflective Dawn. - Nienna
I do have to laugh, considering when I first asked for my Holding, I was told there were too many balefires on the grid or some such BS by Alala-staffer. :P I don’t mind there being so many, but yes, let’s get them known and played in or something. Though, I think still it would be cool to make IT the county Seat now, and let the Duke leave town, handing it over to some NPC count/ess. Again, only one level of NPCs then to deal with! -Kenna
