• SuppleJack

  • National Digital Forum

  • Remote harvesting

    More accessible Digital Content

By utilising the SuppleJack advances we can increase the amount of content we collect through DigitalNZ.
There is an open question around Natlib. Should it show collections from around New Zealand?
The work that Dan, Ting & Rowan does could also be done by other people. We are resource constrained.

The idea is that we would form separate satellite teams.

Perhaps we QA and check it. They run all the harvests.

  • NZResearch

    Support for science and business

  • Network for Learning

    Better outcomes for students

A portal and suite of services giving schools and students better access to digital services. Digital tech for schools in the cloud.
DigitalNZ is the launch exemplar for integrating into their APIs.
If the portal is successful it could dramatically increase traffic.

  • Papers Past

    More digitisation and hosted materials

    Greater engagement and awareness

    Importance of the project are:
    1) by bringing together existing sites we need to make the website for generic: papers, magazines, journals, books etc.
    2) In doing this work, we unblock the digitisation team.
We give local libraries and other groups a place to put their content.

  • Natlib.govt.nz

    Innovate and reconcile

A combination of communications stuff and roll up your sleeves stuff.

  • DigitalNZ.org

    Adding value through connections

Pairing connections with the stuff that hangs off remote harvesting is really powerful (e.g. research, Maori content).

  • Asia Pacifica

    Going further through partnerships

Our footprint is much bigger with Asia Pacifica. It gives us a great deal more clout.

  • Leveraging the network

Learning / networking with our international peers.

  • Make it Digital

There is increased interest in digitisation from various quarters. Particularly from Ministry for Culture and Heritage.

  • Maori Content

  • NZ Govt

Could the GIS team do this?

  • Pasifika content

Could we get secondment from Pacific Island affairs?
    Is there someon in Turnbull?

  • Research outputs

  • e-books

  • Increased research outputs

    Aligns with NZResearch driver.

  • New vision

It’s sitting there. There is potential. We haven’t acquired research from CRIs. There is lots of thinking around the Lincoln Hub. There is work around research data.

  • Digital Access via API

  • Mix & Mash (digital literacy)

  • Mobile

  • Migration project

  • Creating a platform we can iterate on

Development process for Papers Past product becomes more like Natlib / DNZ scrum. We get enough critical mass to hire internal developers who will sit with us. One scrum.

Note: Although it might not matter where they sit, their time commit each week is very important.

  • Crowdsourcing

This is something to think about once the crowdsourcing project is done.

  • Community interaction..

Thousands of people are using the site. How amazing would it be to build a proper community of researchers on Papers Past.

  • Mobile

2014 needs to be the year!

  • Public programmes

A way of personifying the National Library and the Natlib website.
Principle for beta was that we have all these professional services for different groups (e.g. researchers, authors, educators and so on.) We did not want to pull all that information for those services onto the homepage. The angle for the homepage was public programmes. The ground floor was a new concept for the Library and its public outreach. The homepage is trying to articulate that we are more than a service to libraries, publishers and researchers.
The homepage in Andy’s mind is the equivalent to the ground floor. Andy has a hunch that there is something that around the Natlib homepage that could be improved/rethought around content.

  • The Treaty

There is a massive opportunity in the online space when we factor in the Treaty and Public Programmes.

  • Removal of old websites

There are 50-70 websites. We need to slim those down. Andy expects to see stories that actively address decommissioning websites.

  • Research and development

The time is right to innovate and try things. Andy looks to the team to determine what those things are. Carve out time to make that happen. This might be at the expense of enhancing something on the website.

  • Mobile

Continue with the mobile work we’ve started.

  • Sets

    Curatorial.

  • People and places

Mass connections through algorithms and crowdsourcing.

  • Open source resource sharing

This would directly support digitalnz.org but it comes off the back of Asia Pacifica.

  • Collaboration with Trove, Europeana, DPLA

  • Supports NLNZ agreements with National Library of China + National Library Board Singapore

This goes beyond our group. It is an international agreement that goes through MFAT. It is sanctioned at senior levels.
