Humanity Upgrade (HuG) is a project to create a global movement that will push humanity as a whole towards Humanity 2.0 - our vision for better world for everyone.
It encompasses focusing on positive attitudes, actions and practices in all parts of life - from the individual, through relationships with family and others, and on a grander scale businesses, organizations, governments and society as a whole. We especially want to help those most in need.
In the short-term HuG could potentially have an almost immediate effect on your own life (if it helps you to have a more positive attitude for example), and in the long-term, could potentially could have a positive influence on everyone on the planet (directly or indirectly).
Please navigate to the “What is Humanity Upgrade?” section to find out more. We’ve put it a little further down the page because those who use the site regularly generally access the project information more regularly.
We’re still in the early stages of launching HuG, and right now we’re still organizing all the information about everything we’re doing / planning.
We fully understand that putting all the information about the project on one page is somewhat overwhelming to start with. The tool that we’re using to do this (which generates this page) is perfect for organizing information, and is great for navigating a huge amount of information quickly, but it doesn’t make things easy to take in when you first visit the site.
We sincerely apologize for this. When we have all the information more fully (and better) organized, we will focus on creating a really clean site that isn’t a headache to take in, and has lots of nice photos / images to back up the information.
Your patience is much appreciated!

We’re in this for the long haul. It would be nice to generate a lot of money early on, but the most important thing for us is our long-term goal of creating a better future for everyone.
Thinking rationally, we know that we need to gain people’s trust in our intentions before they will accept our more radical ideas. If we start out by purely developing money-making services, and forget about the human side of things, it is far more likely that we will meet skepticism and resistance down the line.
On an emotional level, we know it’s the right thing to do. We have been so excited by the reaction of kids to the HuG Love concept, and although the HuG Love @ School project has been a very recent addition to the HuG family, everyone has immediately seen how, if done properly, this project in particular the potential to significantly affect the perceptions and attitudes of kids aged 6-10 now.
For the adults we’ll have the HuG Academy, which will allow anyone to share their knowledge / experience on any topic, and have some fun too. Most people love to share what they know, and will hopefully be a key point of reference for many people in the future.
It’s a gamble that might only pay off in years to come. Who knows - maybe some multi-millionaire will decide that s/he wants to help us in our mission. That would be nice!
The above list is the order that we currently plan to start working on projects. The general idea is to build our website builder (which will have many features that you don’t see elsewhere) first, and then to use that to build all of our other websites.
We will then use our website builder to create the websites for the projects that will be our focus for the first few years of HuG, expanding the capabilities of all projects as we go.
It might take a bit longer to start with, but will be worth it in the long-run, because of what we’ll be able to build easily and quickly with our tool.
When we start making money, we will start to channel some of the profits through Kiva.org, so we can help entrepreneurs from around the world who need loans to start / grow their small businesses.

We’re starting to get the info about the projects we’re working on / got in mind on this site.
In the short-term HuG could potentially have an almost immediate effect on your own life (if it helps you to have a more positive attitude for example), and in the long-term, could potentially could have a positive influence on everyone on the planet (directly or indirectly).
Our long-term goal is to create a better future for the whole of humanity, and some of our projects have the potential to do that - but that will clearly not happen overnight.
We’re not going to wait for that to happen before we start to help people, and from the very first day we want to help as many people as possible.
We’re especially interested in doing what we can for kids, and we’re already working on some exciting programs that have the potential to benefit millions of kids from all round the world. They are our future, after all!
Kids aren’t the only people we’re hoping to help though, and we’re rapidly building up a wide range of projects that focus on many different groups. There will literally be something for everyone!
And the list goes on …
We’re already working with some primary schools in various countries to promote the ideals of HuG Love (kindness, respect, tolerance and appreciation for others …) to the kids, taking HuG Love photos with them, connecting them with schools in other countries via Skype, and organizing some mini projects with them.
The reception from kids, teachers and parents to bringing our message to young kids has been overwhelming - we can see this exploding in the next few years, and a great way to start get our message out there.
We’re developing a complete program designed for the kids, with loads of activities that touch on all their school subject, and an online portal that will assist with linking schools in different countries - even if they don’t speak each other’s language. Our aim is to have this ready by the summer of 2017, so it can potentially be used as a summer school activity.
Let us know if you’d like to help with the brain-storming for this, and if you’d like to try it out with some groups of kids (especially aged 6-9).
We’re asking everyone to create some HuG Love photos, and send them to us online to share (see the photos gallery for examples). The goal with this is primarily to help the project to take off, but also projects a positive message around the world, and most people have commented that they found it a lot of fun. If you feel inspired, create / take some, and send them to use (don’t forget that it’s HuG and not HUG)
The HuG Academy will be a website with lots of useful information about pretty much everything - food, nutrition, parenting, cosmetics, photography, climbing… you name it.
We’re looking for people to write articles on pretty much any topic, and in any language, so when we launch the site (hosted at hug.ac), hopefully in the first quarter of 2017, we’ll have some great content to put on there.
Feel free to write anything you feel like (and tell us you’re doing so - it’s motivating to know that people are getting involved), and when the site is ready for your articles, we’ll let you know.
In order to generate money to be able to start to fund other projects (in particular HuG Microfinance @ Kiva to start with), we’re going to create a wide range of online services that will potentially be very useful to a wide range of people.
It will take a while, but we firmly believe in the potential of our ideas, and when successful with these, we’ll be able to start to implement some of our more ambitious plans to help people.
When we start to make money from the first money-generating projects (mostly the IT projects to begin with), we intend to channel some of those profits through the excellent microfinance portal Kiva.org - to loan money to entrepreneurs all around the world.
We love this idea because when done correctly, microfinance has been shown to be very effective at lifting people out of poverty, and because the money is almost entirely returned (Kiva’s website says that around 97% is generally returned from all their loans right now), the money can then be lent to others - which allows us to efficiently help many more people.
In general, projects can be grouped into these categories :
The general process for when we will start the projects will be :
It won’t be as clear cut as that, and mixed in with money-generating will be the cost-neutral projects. The general idea is to start easy, make money and then use the money to re-invest and to do good efficiently - and then repeat the cycle again and again, getting bigger as we generate more money.
See our Development plan section for more precise details.
The whole of HuG started back in 2005 with an idea for a new socio-economic model that has the potential to solve all the world’s problems that can only be solved with unlimited money, because when fully-implemented, the model doesn’t have such a limitation. The only restrictions with the new model are those “real” limits of natural resources, time and people.
Back in 2005 it wasn’t possible to start the process of implementing the new system - primarily because :
However those key factors are nowhere near as true now as they were back then, and it appears that the world might be ready to embrace the massive socio-economic change we absolutely have to make in order to avoid the massive collapse that we’re heading for.
Note that although this is still our long-term goal, our focus right now is on other projects - primarily to help kids and those most in need of help. We will focus our attention on the HuG Economy projects later on, when we’ve already got some projects set up to help people in the present.
Full details will be provided in the HuG Economy project family section soon.
Many might feel that what we’re attempting is simply too much, and it could never succeed. We actually take the opposite view. If we tried to do any one or a few of the projects (in particular the more difficult projects), we think it would be more difficult.
The scope of all our projects is so wide that it potentially has something for absolutely everyone. Many people are simply not interested in massive social change, but are interested in knowing about better nutrition or spiritualism. Others might find the whole HuG Love idea a silly concept, but would be excited about getting involved in one of the IT projects.
If we provide something for everyone, then our potential market is the whole world - and that’s our goal. Over time, there will be more and more benefits for everyone to use something we have to offer, and eventually, everyone should have a reason to use our new socio-economic model as well. At that point, it won’t be a big leap of faith for them, instead a natural progression towards an advantage in their life.
Obviously this won’t happen overnight, but given enough time and effort, it can - and we are fully convinced that eventually it will!
Because we’ve got so many projects planned, we’re organizing them into groups - which we’re calling project families - because families like to HuG a lot (hehe, aren’t we funny!).
To make it easier to identify specific projects, we’ve created a naming system, so each project will be given a name like :
HuG [general area] @ [specific part]
For some projects, we’re also adding extra sub-sections in brackets :
HuG Academy @ Tips (Parenting)
Our aim is to make things as clear as possible, and it will likely take a little time to get it polished - and and all feedback on this is welcomed!
It is not easy to try to convey such an enormous project / concept in a way that is clear and understandable to everyone. Hopefully we’ve done a good enough job to convey our message.
We will be creating a really nice website that is very clear and attractive - and we will hopefully have that in the not-too distant future. Hopefully this site is good enough for now, especially for those that want to get involved at this early stage.
We know that all that we aim to achieve is a monumental task, and that we will likely receive resistance to our bigger plans, but our intentions are pure, and our determination to realize what we’ve set out to do absolute.
We invite you to join us on this journey with open arms and a BiG HuG!
HuG Love is our project family whereby we are trying to spread the message of love, respect, tolerance, kindness etc. all over the world.
In particular we are focusing on helping teach these values to kids, through our HuG Love @ Kids program.
Everyone can get involved with this though - send us your HuG Love photos and we’ll put them on our Facebook page.
See the ‘How you can help’ sections in the different projects.
The HuG Academy will be a website with useful information on pretty much anything. It will have articles on a huge range of topics, with tips / techniques, pearls of wisdom etc. written in any language.
The articles will need to be written in Markdown format.
The specific syntax that we will be implementing will include extensions to standard syntaxes (to add extra capabilities), and these are still being developed.
However, there is a common syntax to most Markdown variants, and this shouldn’t cause any problems (see below for suggested writing tool).
See this cheatsheet for more info.
We suggest that you write your articles using Gingko, for a number of reasons :
We’ve not generated any money yet, so we’ve not yet started this project.
The best way you can help if you’re passionate about this particular cause is to help out with the other projects, in particular writing articles for the HuG Academy.
Later on we’ll be looking to integrate our websites that generate money with Kiva, so any programmers who might want to do that, let us know.
For now just help out with any of the other projects
If you are a programmer and would like to get involved with any of these projects.
HuG Love @ School aims to teach values such as love, kindness, tolerance etc. to kids of all ages, but especially those in primary schools (5-11 years old).
When ready
Looking to have the website ready to be used by summer school groups in the summer of 2017
Store rankings of values for each class (kids and teachers can see global rankings)
Upload photos, pictures, videos
Create accounts by school, class, year
Provide HuG with feedback about the whole exercise
Ask parents what the reaction was of the kids
Suggest the idea of the HuG @ Home certificate as an incentive to remind the kids of the values
If parents think it was of value to their kids, tell them that there is follow-up information for parents on the website
Start - 3-4 weeks before proposed date?
(optional) Teacher talks a little about HuG, and that they’re going to try to organize the exercise with a school in another country, and ask them which country the kids would like to speak to people from
Teacher goes to huglove website to find a partner in the country that they want to, with an appropriate aged group, and tries to find someone
Using the interface, the teachers (together) choose an appropriate program / interface that they will use in the Skype chat (it can be adapted to the age of the kids, and the level of language skill of both the kids and the teacher on each side)
A couple of weeks before the Skype call, the teachers provide the pre-prepared pack of info to the parents, and offer to discuss anything with them if they would like to know more (see notes on communication with parents)
After the teachers have decided the programme / interface, they set a date / time for the Skype call, so that both sides can organize themselves
A couple of weeks before the Skype call, the teachers provide the pre-prepared pack of info to the parents, and offer to discuss anything with them if they would like to know more (see notes on communication with parents)
Do the exercises as see fit, but try to get their photos and pictures (and videos?) uploaded by at least 3 days before the Skype call
caring
courage / determination to follow your dreams
hard-working
helpful to people you know
Suggest a HuG Love family photo for the project
Decide on favourite 3 photos / pictures of the other group
Rank the values in the list in order of importance to the group
Take HuG Love photos / videos
Photos / videos of the problem-solving exercises
Draw a picture of a time where you feel good when you give someone a hug
Draw a picture that represents one of the values you discussed earlier (linked to discussion of values)
Upload the photos to the huglove.org website
Organize the photos into groups / classes
Link to the school’s page on the huglove.org website
Look up the word for ‘love’ and ‘hug’ and ‘I love you’ in lots of other languages
Work out the minimum number of people to make a HuG Love with the shapes of bodies
What shapes in the class room can be used to make a HuG Love?
Topics that can learn about
History - major events / things in history
Go onto huglove website to see the national rankings of the values (schools and adults)
Discuss how the classroom was the same / different
Discuss the differences in the rankings of the values that the other group had (teacher to kids - not everyone thinks the same as you do)
Discussion about what things they can learn from traveling the world and meeting people from other cultures
Teacher asks if they’d like to do it again with a group from a different country
“Are you all going to be kind, respectful…?”
Draw a picture of what the other kids looked like
