  • plot summary from Feary Tales FB Page:

So once upon a time, there were three kingdoms, surrounding a faeland, which people are often banished to and end up turned into monstrous/fairy tale things if they stay in the land for too long. The three kingdoms often fight over who owns this area for various reasons. One prince (eddie’s) just wants to destroy it, one (Thomas) wants to use it to torture his citizens, and the third (andy) doesn’t care at all; his step-mom, the Queen (Nia), wants to use it to raise a hellish army to take over the other two kingdoms with.
Those within the faeland are ruled by the Red Queen, and the creatures within both loathe and tolerate her in equal measure. She was once the queen of the Thomas’s kingdom, before she was removed from the throne in his plan to take over.
Right now that’s what I’ve got, and I’m still trying to work everyone into it. I’m thinking I’ll write everyone’s fairy tales and then combine them together for the second half of the book.

I want martial law not marshal

  • Point A, The Opener

  • Things Are Normal. (maybe put this later in the book)

A cold wind blew in the East Kingdom, and Marshal Thomas looked down from one of the many towers on the castle. He turned and spoke to the queen, who was being detained by a few of her own guards.

“Listen. we can do this a couple ways, your highness. Either I’m going to kill you, or the Faelands will. Your choice.”

Thomas was a short, thin man with earlobe length blond hair. His face was riddled with scrapes and cuts, some of which had been there for months and years, others fresh. A few were infected, but none were bandaged.

“Thomas, you are one of my greatest military minds, why are you doing this? Do I not reward you well enough for your service?” she shook slightly.

“Highness,” he said, turning around to face her,”I don’t get enough service. All these trips to the faelands, all the exiled citizens….What use is my military mind if that is all I’m doing? Hardly any!”

    He laughed, eyes shining.

“How about this, your majesty, let’s go ahead and give you a taste of where I’ve been and what I’ve seen…I doubt you’ll make it back, but If you do, we can fight for the throne.”

    “You’re mad.” her eyes widened.

“No,” he said, walking towards her, “Simply innovative. You don’t deserve the throne. Boys, I exile our dear queen, with no living heirs, and place our dear Kingdom under martial law. Take her away.”

He spat on her feet, and the guards carried her, struggling, away.

  • Chapter 1

The faelands rested between the three kingdoms, the center of a ring that hadn’t been whole for centuries. Once it was a welcoming, inviting place that was open to all residents of the world, and known far and wide for the cures to ailments that were long since gone. The fairies were few in number now, and hesitant allow outsiders in for any reason. It was rumored that a witch had taken up residence in the land to try and find the secret to eternal life, but among the explorers who had tried to find if it was true, none returned in the same form they entered the lands with.

  • Prince Treven

Probably worse than Thomas, He married a girl who cast a spell on him to force his hand. The spell faded at midnight a year later, turning his heart into a pumpkin, which contained all his kind feelings. Initially enraged by this, he had her beheaded and set that head on a pike.

  • Ruling Marshal Thomas

Incredibly cruel, was previously the captain of Queen Redd’s guard. He took over the Second Kingdom because he felt underutilized and has gone slightly mad from frequent trips to the Faelands to drop off exiled citizens.

    1. Kingdom to the NorthWest, Prince Trevin’s Kindom’s culture/style/etc is loosely based on romania, czeck, ukraine and a touch of russia. The capitol is furthest north, a decision made several hundred years ago. the King then had decided that isolationism was the best plan for security and had the castle built onto a cliffside. The cliff has since crumbled and the castle is now supported by a metal ‘mountain’ that was gradually built to keep the castle from collapsing with the cliff. In keeping with russian architecture, there are many onion domes on the turrets. one of their main exports (& one of their only) is metals. The mining mountain villages just outside of their kingdom, while not under rule, do look to Prince Treven’s father for protection from the other kingdoms, and they pay him in kind with rich iron, copper, and occasionally gold. This kingdom isn’t the richest, but it does have the potential for military might.
  • 2 Ruling Marshal Thomas’s Kingdom, loosely based on the UK & Switzerland. They are on the north-east edge, and touch water at two points. In previous reigns, this kingdom was generally peaceful and had the farthest reach outside of their kingdom, needing extensive imports from distant lands to make up for lacking some resources. about 1/3 of the kindgom is farmland, 1/3 is industrialized and the remaining third is forested. This kingdom is known for being very bureaucratic and almost excessively polite, however visitors from the Other Kingdoms are not always treated in a purely kind way.

The architecture is Victorian English in style for the upper class, while the lower class typically lives in stone and log cabins, with one to two rooms and a fireplace/woodstove. When the Queen reigned, she would often give people permission to rebuild their homes without charge as they got too dilapidated due to the humid rot that tends to take all houses, however since the reign of Thomas, many of the lower class have had to move to the industrial areas to seek work and housing. Stone is the preferred building material in the industrial areas, and is much harder for the working class to obtain due to cost. Certain trees are off limits to build with, including the Glassleafed Elder,
