#The Power of Play
Critical for growth and development
Taking turns, imagination, sharing, interaction with others, etc.
Play must revolve around hands-on experiences
Play is the fuel for the mind.
The most important thing a child can do is play.
Black, white, and red are the colors that
infants are able to identify and see.
Not every child learns the same way - Multiple Intelligences
Play is the clearest insight into the kids’ personalities and what makes them unique
Play is a random activity - it’s less structured and that’s good
Social Play is key because it helps strengthen ability to interact with others
Children will like how they play. Play is connected to multiple intelligences. Organized sports are alright for the kid but it would be better for them to play freely so they can learn problem solving. It is smart for the kids today to play with other kids to learn sharing and taking turns and other necessary tools to learning.
Three different types of play:
-With adults (creative outcomes)
-With peers (social skills)
-Solitary Play
Play shows children’s personalities and their strengths. Unstructured play is better than planned play because children develop many skills. There is three different kinds of play. One by themselves, one with an adult and one with peers.
Play gives us an insight into how they’re developing. Adults playing with children is the most important thing a parent can do. Being told to draw for half an hour isn’t considered play because its being directed by the parent instead of the kid. Music is also a very helpful tool.
Playing with adults in their early years increases synapses in the brain - huge for brain development
There must be a balance between direction and creativity-facilitation
Children are very sensitive to hearing language and that helps them develop language
Children who are taught by example learn better than anyone else.
Children who have adults play with them increase their knowledge. Play is child-directed and natural. Reading to children is helpful
