#Potential Topic
When my aunt gave me the book Where The Sidewalk Ends in 6th grade
When i wrote my poem for the cafe thing in 6th grade
This summer when I watched Kill Your Darlings which led me to read Howl and introduced poetry to me
My “Dear Dumb Diary” book that I was writing in 3 grade
#Why It Matters
This was the first form of poetry that I read and I thought my aunt was really weird for giving it to me but it ended up being alright.
Mrs. Gaurisco was bragging about my poem to another parent and it really boosted my esteem on my writing
because it really made my interest in poetry and literature boost
it was the first form of “creative” writing that I ever wrote. I wrote it on my own time.
#Vivid Scene Ideas
I remember when she gave me the book II was in my grandmas living room on front of the whole family and I was actually quite disappointed because I was like “wow, what a lame gift”. Then a couple months later i got extremely bored and decided to pick up the book and actually somewhat enjoyed it.
My heart skipped a beat when my name was called to read my own personal poem in front of 20 other 6th graders in the Alumni house. After I sped through reading it, everyone shyly snapped for me. I thought I did alright until after we were all leaving and I heard Mrs. Gaurisco saying how “creative and brilliant” mine was.
I snuggled up with my best friend, Alexandra, on a rainy June afternoon and started Kill Your Darlings, solely because the main character was played by my favorite actor Dane Dehaan. I remember Alexandra actually ended up napping while i sat upright and staring wide eyed at the tv. As soon as the credits rolled I pulled my phone out and looked up a piece of writing that was frequently mentioned throughout the film, Howl by Allen Ginsburg, and I read it over and over again until Alexandra woke up.
I was stuck at my grandmas house for most of the summer and decided to start typing up a chapter book on her laptop. I have to admit that I stole the title of my novel from a book I had seen around the library. Everyday I would sit on her living room floor and write for about 2 hours. I got to about the 6th chapter before summer was over and I stopped writing it.
