  • What is Depression?

Let’s face it, if we’re going to talk to you about how to end your depression, we might as well have some sort of clue as to what depression is. We’re not just going to sit here and tell you to get over it! (Especially if we don’t actually know what we’re telling you to get over)

So, we did some poking around on the internet, then asked a number of people that have an experience with depression what depression is. Some could not answer, those that could you will find below.

  • What is Life?

Defining life is a very difficult concept. Some ancient texts propose that we are alien experiments. Some religious texts tell us that we are the incarnation of the divine, and yet others tell us that life is a gift from the Lord, and even others believe that life is pointless.

  • We asked the same group that very same question - what is life? Even fewer answered.

  • So, why are we here?
To be frank, I’ve not got a clue, but I suspect it’s got something to do with our consciousness.

  • The Messages You Receive

We receive many messages and stimuli from many different places. We receive these messages, and often may take them on. This section will explore some of those messages, and allow you to determine what messages you want and which messages you don’t want.

  • Your Role

  • The Law of Attraction

    The Theory, Explained
The Law of Attraction says that as you think of something, you are immediately attracting that something to you, which seems somewhat unrealistic - just because I want a job, doesn’t mean I will get one.

However, The Law of Attraction also talks about being specific - if I want a job, I must visualize the perfect job - the environment, the people, your role, creating that energy for yourself. Really think about the colors, the surfaces, and the textures. I must make it real in my mind. That creates internal energy for myself.

  • Shifting Language

Often, there is a sort of finality when I am depressed - resolving myself to the fact that something is and cannot change. It is a closed door - one that cannot be opened unless we open it, and sometimes, thinking about walking through that door is petrifying.

So let’s start with baby steps:

  • Your Mission

You need to know what you want to know where you’re going

Knowing that you are being manipulated and
knowing how to stop it is one thing, and you can certainly ignore those things, but for what? What’s the purpose?

Figure out what you want from life.

  • Attachment

Am I holding onto something that is preventing me from getting what I want?

We are our own best enemies. Ideally, being aware of how we’re doing that will give us some sort of guiding light. Often, our motivation will be related to attachment?

  • Transformation

How do I need to change to get what I want?

    Make The Change

You’ll have to shift something and move some energy if you want something to change.

  • Commitment

What small, measurable step am I willing to commit to move in that direction?

  • Responsibility

What do I need to do to make that transformation?

  • Accountability

    Did I do it?

  • Final Thoughts

You are a wonderful being, and you are not alone. Sometimes, you need to be reminded.

  • We’d love to hear from you about your thoughts on this book:

    Did it help?
How did you feel while reading it?
    What would YOU add?
What do you want to do with your life now?

This book will attempt to shed some inside onto some ocommon problems and ideas and help you invent a new possibility for yourself. It will help you fet what yu want, plain and simple - a death.

  • A Note From The Author:

The title is extremely misleading. This is on purpose.

  • “As my friend was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused the by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a rope tied to their legs. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from the ropes they were tied to buy for some reason, they did not. My friend saw a trainer nearby and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.

‘Well,’ he said ‘when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.’ My friend was amazed. These animals could, at any time, break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were. The powerful and gigantic creature has limited its present abilities by the limitations of its past.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life holding onto a belief that we cannot go something, simply because we failed at it one before? How many of us refuse to attempt something new and challenging because of our so-called mindset?”

    -Author Unknown

  • What It Is: this is a book of lists - there are many of them. Some are comedic whereas other are meant to appeal to the intellectual. These lists are meant to be both inspirational, motivational, and an honest opportunity to get what you want most from your life.

  • FROM THE DICTIONARY
    a : a sing down : lowering
b (1) : a state of feeling sad : dejection (2) : a psychoneurotic or psychotic disorder marked especially by sadness, inactivity, difficulty in thinking and concentration, a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping, feelings of dejection and hopelessness, and sometimes suicidal tendencies
c (1) : a reduction in activity, amount, quality, or force (2) : a lowering of vitality or functional activity

  • FROM DEPRESSED PEOPLE
    “I can’t do this alone.”
    “Why bother?”
    “Who cares?”
    “It’s not worth it.”
“I’m going to fuck up one way or the other.”
“I know how this will end…”
    “If only you understood.”
“If I change one thing in my life, the entire rest of my life will collapse.”

  • So, here’s a creative list of other possible reasons. Some of these things make no sense, but how much sense does life make to you?

    • We are here to destroy ourselves.
    • We are here to rule the world.
    • We are here to work.
    • We are here to evolve.
    • We are here to learn.
    • We are here to take common ideas and complicate.
    • We are here to run the world.
    • We are here to run the universe.
    • We are here to make babies.
    • We are here to experience life.
    • We are here to change life.
    • We are here to change ourselves.
    • We are here to eat.
    • We are here to survive.
    • We are not here.
    • We are here to question reality.
    • We are here to get what we want.
    • We are here to discover what we want.
    • We are here.
  • Our Success

How often do you hear “you’ve GOT to be successful so that you can get a good job and be secure with your future?”
Who are you if you don’t land that good job?
    How disappointed are you?
How many of your friends do you know who get depressed when they have a tremendously difficult time finding work?

Isn’t that why there’s colleges out there, why companies partner with colleges for the classic “job fair” model, and why people look at the latest pay charts when choosing their career? In fact, there’s usually a question that comes before “what college should I go to” or “what’s the highest paying career.”

Do you remember that question? It goes something like this: “What do you want to be when you grow up.” That’s right want. What do you want to be. That’s the question we’re asked before any other. Until something else comes along…

  • Money

Somehow, buried deep down in the depths of our humanity is the notion that money will make us happy.

“If only I had that dollar to get the cady bar.”
“What if I could just get a nicer place.”
“If I could afford a nicer car, I wouldn’t have all of these problems!”
“Man, I’d go to that Ivy-League school, but it’s so expensive!”

  • The Impact

Be mindful of the impact of the words you create and consume. As has just been illustrated, there are a number of ways that you, I, and countless others are being impacted by how words are used, how often, what they say, and what other messages are being connected with them. The questions we asked before can really help tell you what’s going on for you when you hear a particular message.

  • What are your beliefs?

Seriously, what are they? Your beliefs are the core of who you are and shape how you look at the world. Often, we compare ourselves to our present situation using a set of beliefs. Maybe there’s a belief that you’re the best NASCAR(TM) driver in the world or that you can’t beat the level of Mario Kart you’re stuck in. Sometimes, we convince ourselves that a belief is incorrect in an attempt to overcome it.

Whatever your beliefs, is it unreasonable to say that they give you a perspective?

  • Facts

    • All matter is energy condensed into slow vibration.
    • The body reacts to thoughts.
    • Matter has gravity.
  • A Theory

The Law of Attraction is how the universe works.

  • Newton and Einstein
We all know that everything solid has mass. Einstein went on to show that energy and mass can be converted between one another. So even though it’s small, all energy actually HAS mass.

Newton showed that everything with mass has gravity - this is why planets rotate around the sun and why our very moon doesn’t fly out of our orbit.

  • Tell Me More
It’s not just about thinking your way out of things - it’s about manifesting what you want on an energetic level.

The more energy you put into a thought or idea - the more you focus on what you WANT, the more “mass” there is toward that thing.

The more specific you are in that focus, the more of that type of energy you create. As a side effect, you also begin to believe that you already have that thing. Naturally, due to the very way the universe works, you will attract that thing toward you.

  • A wise man once said: “You will never get something in more detail than you asked for it.”

This is paraphrased. If anyone knows the original quote, please let me know.

  • How to Do It

    The Do’s

    • Make a vision board - It’s a great way to connect with and really see our wants. We are creatures that naturally see by believing.
    • Remind yourself daily of what you want - By reminding yourself, you help make it more concrete in your mind.
    • Why Not? - There’s no logical reason NOT to try this. If you try it and it doesn’t work, you’re no better off. There’s no risk.
    • Focus - That’s your goal. You want it. You need to keep your eye on the prize. Birdwatching while running an obstacle course will only end in bruised knees.
    • Envision everything you want for yourself - The sky is the limit here. This is your life. How do you want to choose to live it?

    The Don’ts

    • Don’t talk about what you don’t want - You’re only focusing on that thing. What does, “I don’t want to have to drive” really focus on - where is your energy going in that sentence? To driving.
You have to think about driving before you think about not driving, and even then, you’re visualizing the act of NOT doing it - rememeber, energy has gravity.
    • Don’t give up - There’s no risk involved in trying, only some work. What are you really afraid of?
    • Don’t feel badly if you don’t get it right away - You will get it when it is time. You will get other things that you have conceptualized as you need them.
  • The Words

There are plenty of societally acceptable ways of speaking, many of which have been touched on above and are often the result of the current state of our society - psychology to “keep us small”.
The words we choose to use makes a huge difference. Here are some examples:

  • The Phrases

It’s not just the words that matter, but also the phrases. HOW we put the words together, and what the energy of our sentence actually is.

  • Taking a Step Back

Sometimes, it’s best just to remove yourself from a situation in order to get the 10,000 foot view of it and really see all the powers at play.

    • Place both feet on the ground
    • Take deep breaths into your lower stomach
    • Close your eyes
    • Focus on something repetitive (i.e. a clock or fan)
    • Imagine yourself as a hollow pipe with your thoughts simply passing through it
    • Notice ant tension or pain in your body and allow yourself to experience it.
    • Physically change locations
    • Feel whatever you’re feeling at whatever intensity yo feel it, while remaining still
    • Release attachment from judging your feelings
    • Forgive yourself from any mistakes you’ve made
    • Move away from electronics for a few hours
    • Perform a cleanse
    • Play usic
    • Write poetry
    • Journal
  • Crafting the Wording

Since we are so able to be manipulated by words, why not be manipulated by your own? Craft a mission statement to use as a mantra.

Here’s some questions you can ask yourself:

    • What have I wante to do my whole life?
    • What invigorates me more than anything else?
    • What can I get lost in doing for hours?
    • What is something I’ve been telling myself I can’d do, but keep wanting to?
    • When I’m with other people, what sorts of things invigorate me to talk about?
    • If I find myself saying “If only I had money, I would…” what would that be?
    • If you could start over without any need for money or responsibilities, what would you do?
    • In your opinion, what is the one thing that the world needs more of?
    • When you are depressed, is there something you want to give the world, but don’t think you can?
  • Encourage Yourself!

Everyone needs reminders. Alongside the reminders, and you must keep your own momentum moving. Where do you find your energy is lacking? How can you encourage yourself to keep it up?

Here’s some ways you can do that:

    • Meditation
    • Affirmations
    • Omming
    • Exercise
    • Read or write poetry
    • Receive Reiki
    • Get a massage
    • Practice deep breathing

    • Do yoga
    • Write letter to family
    • Spend time outside barefoot
    • Write a list a day of ideas
  • Support Yourself

In order to sustain that mission, you must reinforce your beliefs and your mission more often than you reinforce the parts of it that do not serve you.
I haven’t met anyone that can do this completely on their own.

  • The Importance of Commitment

  • What Committing Takes

  • Making a commitment

  • Don’t be Afraid to Ask For Help

Sometimes, support means more than just having someone hold you accountable, even thought that in and of itself is extremely powerful.

  • Keep the Right People in Your Life

You can only move to a better place of being if you keep people with a better place of being around you.

Experts say that the three closest people to you are the most influential.

  • Some Quotes

Because sometimes, other people’s words help. These are quote that specifically focus on transformation and this shift into who you are.

  • REMINDERS

  • Mantras

Mantras are phrases that you can repeat to yourself - new messages that you can take on. They sometimes feel cheesy, but the best ones are the hardest ones to repeat, as what we feel when we repeat them is our own resistance of them.

  • Sorry, this is not a book on 1,000 ways to commit suicide. Though, if that’s what you were looking for, you’ve come to just the right place. I’ll admit that there was a point in my life when I wanted to do jsut that, and Itried. But, there was a reason that I hadn’t done it or that it didn’t work out. In those moments, I had no idea what that reason was, I just knew THAT it was. This book is the culmination of efforts from a number of people who have completely reshaed their lives from this very mindset. This is not a self-help book. It is not filled with things that are unfathomable. It is, however, Filled with ideas - concepts, and things to run with.

  • These ideas and oncepts were organized by a consortium of people to provide multiple perspectives from multiple experiences. Each experience has its own background and personal story, and each has contributed to their group of friends in a fantastic way. These are real people that have had real experiences with the real emotions that you may be experiencing. These are their ideas, their passions, and their advice, summed up, right here. Their contact information is at the end of the book.

  • You will find original and not so original ieas in this book. But one thing is for sure,m you will find meaningful words. Give yourself permission to experience them. Let the journey begin…

  • This expectation is at the root of all of our conversations - as we talk about rich and the poor, the wealthy and the impoverished, or the proletariat and the bourgeoisie, the conversation is the same: money somehow has a control over us and over our perception of the world that seems near unbreakable.

Switch on the news, and you hear about the latest health care bill and how much it will COST in dollars and cents. The presidential elections roll around, and you hear about how much the campaign costs, or how much he will cut costs. Go on Facebook, and you see what the RICH are doing and how little they care.

  • But of course, there’s two sides to every coin. Alongside those articles, you will find an equal amount of articles depicting the fact that money doesn’t matter and that we should all get along.

Look at the right people, rich or poor, and you will find generosity, good will, and caring. Hell, the Dalai Llama gave away a huge lump sum of money to charity simply because he didn’t want it. But yet, the issues with money remain.

Are these issues local only to America? Are they issues that remain in a foreign land? In some cases, yes. In others, not so much.

  • Our Nature

When speaking, are you often aware of what you’re saying and how the other will hear it? How often do you check in around how others are hearing what you’re trying to relay? How often do you hear phrases like “I think you understand” or “How could anyone think differently?”

  • Our Meaning

Everyone has a different attachment to certain things based on their experience with them. For example, if someone said “I strongly suggest…” I hear that as condescending, and actually hear that in the tone of the person who said it to me for many years.

As we evolve through our experiences, we encounter different words and phrases. Coupled with experiences, these words and phrases shape what we interpret these words to mean.

  • Words have great power…

They can convince, dissuade, persuade, dictate, and more. Think about the last time someone told you what you had to do - how did that feel? I would imagine there was a reaction of either resentment or anger or a passive acceptance that that thing had to be done at all costs. Think about the last time someone said something like “I think it would be a good idea if…” and how you felt then.

  • Words, ultimately, enact both hemispheres of the brain to form a belief about something that may or may not be true, especially if those words are heard over and over again. I think it fair to say that most don’t notice that belief. Instead, they notice their reaction - in most cases anger or surrender.

  • The Suggestions

There are a number of suggestions that are being made constantly, and they create a standard to live up to that is likely very inaccurate or unreal.

The meaning of words are created by experiences. When we bear witness to an ideal body, ideal relationship, ideal marriage, ideal car, ideal lifestyle, and so on, it’s difficult to separate ourselves from those meanings.

  • The Implied Messages

Being creatures of habit, we naturally receive implied messages from our surroundings. When we hear these messages, our minds interpret them, despite how we WANT them to.

  • Given that our experiences shape our belief, it would stand to reason that we are constantly surrounded by a series of beliefs that others have experienced. This is society. This is the common belief system in which we live.

These things come with an implied meaning as well. Please reference the questions in The Implied Meanings when reading these to see how they truly sit with you. These all center around an expectation. Expectations lead to disappointment. Some may resonate more than others.

    • If you go to school, you will be successful
    • Don’t do anything until you have the money to do it.
    • If you’re not an expert, don’t bother.
    • The world is a scary place.
    • Better safe than sorry.
    • Play it safe.
    • You’re special.
    • The harder you work, the more money you get.
    • There should be an equal balance of work vs. play.
    • If it doesn’t serve you, don’t participate in it.
    • You are what you eat.
    • Only time will tell.
    • Don’t worry, be happy.
    • Everything is a big deal.
    • I can’t do it.
  • In Business: Marketing Practices

Let’s face it: we live in a world where there are suggestions coming at us from life all of the time, and those suggestions are often targeted at people that fit whatever it is a business is looking for. That, to them, just makes you a number. It make you someone who “needs to take advantage of this special offer right now” or feel like you’ve got “an exclusive opportunity.”

  • In TV: Advertising

Advertising, just like the messages that we receive in verbal form, are more powerful than any other. They have not only carefully chosen words and a wording structure but also powerful images, music, and regulations that really push the limits of what we are “allowed” to be controlled by. These advertisements affect us, just like any other message.

  • There is often an impact on both yourself and on others. To relay what needs to be relayed in a way that is truly authentic to your intention, you must be aware of the impact on both sides.

  • Realizing your impact is more that just censoring what you say - it’s a journey into authentic understanding of the reality of a situation.

  • A big part of realizing the impact is to listen - really, truly, authentically listen. That will give you a greater understanding of the other perspective.

  • In Conversation

Here are some ways to truly realize your impact in conversation.

  • A LIST OF WAYS TO DISCOVER YOUR BELIEFS

  • “..Should….”

Instead, use “I would like” or “A great way would be…”

Should implies shame, and implies that you know what’s best. It also implies that anything else is unworthy of thought.

  • “…But..”

    Instead, use “…and…”

    Use “but” with care.

  • “…Can’t because…”

Instead, use “What’s another way I can do this?”

Can’t is formed from a lesson of failure the happened to you or someone else.

The same guidelines with “but” apply here.

  • “If…then,” “If…then you…”

    Are they really dependent?

This is the sign of a learned behavior that may or may not be true.

“If I go outside, I’ll freeze to death!”
Unless you live in the antarctic, this is not true. You may, however, experience the feeling of cold.

  • “Might,” “Thinking about,” “Try”

    Instead, use “Will…”

And remember, it’s ok if you make a mistake.

    “I’m thinking about exercising later.”
Will you or won’t you? You have a lot of ways to convince yourself not to do what makes you happy when you speak like this.

  • “…I Forgot…”

You didn’t forget anything. How could you remember if you actually forgot?

In other words, just because something wasn’t in your immediate consciousness when you wanted it to be doesn’t mean that you forgot it. If you forgot it, remembering it would be an issue. Note that remembering and forgetting are NOT opposites.

  • “…Kind of…”, “…a little…”, “…very…” (some emotion)

Just state the emotion - if you kind of are, you are.

Using kind of downplays your emotion. Even if it’s there a little, it’s still there.

    “I’m kinda sad.”

  • Notice what we just talked about when it came to words. Chances are, those bodily reactions in
    #Appendix ?
revealed a lot about your energy in reading them. A sentence is a representation of strings of energy. How we string words together greatly shapes the meaning we try to get across.

  • For example:

    “I’m not good at…..”
    to
    I’m not good at…yet”

    “This is so hard.”
    to
“I don’t know how to do this yet.

“I’ve never been in a relationship”
    to
“I haven’t been in a relationship up to this point”

    “I don’t have any friends..”
    to
“I haven’t had many friends recently.”

  • A LIST OF WAYS TO BUILD A MISSION + WORDSMITHIGN + MISSION CRAFTING ACTIVITIES (MEDITATIONS?)

  • Here’s some ways you can do that:

    • Tell others about your vision. It can be scary at first, but it gets the momentum going, and challenges you to articulate it clearly.
    • Ask for help when you need something. It’s ok if you don’t understand, just say so.
    • Take the first step even if you don’t understand. Maybe Google a list of people who do?
    • Check in with yourself daily to see if you’re any closer to your goals.
    • Write your goals down. Just like the game “telephone,” we can often remember a false reality.
  • “Just try to be happy. Unhappiness starts with wanting to be happier.”
    -Sam Levenson

  • “Every moment and every event in a man’s life on earth plants something in his soul.”
    -Thomas Merton

  • “Wanting to be someone else is a waste of who you are.”
    -Kurt Cobain

  • “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m Possible’!”
    -Audrey Hepburn

  • “Change your thoughts and your change your world.”

  • “Life isn’t about finding yourself - it’s about creating yourself.”
    -Coco Chanel

  • “The best and most beautiful things in this world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.”
    -Helen Keller

  • “Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.”
    -Buddha

  • “You do not have problems. You have solutions that you don’t like.”

  • Thought and energy has gravity. Increase your energy toward something, and it will be attracted toward you.

  • I attract that which I truly want.

  • I am living my life fully.

  • I am taken care of right now.

  • I am living an abundant life.

  • Often, when speaking, we speak from a place of ego. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it does mean that we are speaking as if we believe that our words are unversally understood. Sure, there are some common elements, but does the other person really “get it”?

  • The Definition
A verbal, written, or recorded communication sent to or left for a recipient who cannot be contacted directly. -Google Language

  • The Implied Meaning
Naturally, the definition is not the only thing that makes up a word. There is also a huge implied meaning that comes along with it - the connotation.

  • Reality

These are things that many just assume to be true or assign some sort of wealth or value to. By believing and accepting some of these things, you are somehow more normal.

Since we believe that everyone is their own unique person, we don’t believe that these things should govern your beliefs about the world in the least.

  • We won’t sway you either way, but note how you feel as you read these:
    Some questions to ask yourself:

    • Is my body tense?
    • Is it relaxed?
    • Does reading a belief make me breathe a sigh of relief?
    • Does this belief seem familiar (or resonate)?
    • Do I surrender to the truth of the belief?
    • Do I feel like I want to believe it, but is just outside of my reach?
    • Is it a belief I already have?

  • Listening Exercises

    • Engage the person you are conversing with using eye contact.
    • Match the posture and form of the person you are conversing with.
    • If you’re just starting a conversation with someone, ask two questions, truly listen for the response, then answer two. Go back and forth until there is a “flow” to the conversation.
    • After the other person is done talking, say “just so I understand,” then present back to them what they said as clearly as possible in your own words, followed by “ is that accurate?”
    • Use “what I hear you saying is…” and repeat their words back to the individual when you find yourself confident in understanding their words.
    • If you find yourself confused or unsure, it’s ok to admit that you don’t understand.
  • Questions to Ask Yourself When Speaking

    • How many concepts am I trying to relay?
    • When was the last time I checked in with him/her in this conversation?
    • What is their perspective on this topic?
    • Do I truly understand what is being said?
    • What might happen if I say this?
    • How might others feel if I do whatever it is I’m talking about?
    • How do I feel about what I am saying or want to say? Am I saying it out of an emotion, or because I’ve thought it out?
  • Questions to Ask Others in a Conversation
and truly, truly, listen to the answers. Just because you are misheard does not mean that you are wrong.

    • Does what I’m saying make sense?
    • Am I going too quickly?
    • How do you feel about what I’ve said?
    • How could I have been more clear?
    • What do you think about what I’ve said?
  • But, why?

In English, the word but has tremendous negating power, and, unfortunately, is often used in make places where it shouldn’t be - It’s quite nearly the new “like.”

  • Notice when you use “but.” Can you use and in its place? If you can, use it. Using but will imply that everything before the “but” is not true, and certainly less important, than everything after the but.

  • Only use “but” when you specifically want to negate something. Having this intention to negate something only by choice, choosing to remain open to things that may not seem likely by using “and” in the meantime, is a great way to keep yourself positive.

  • A great way to use “…but…” is to negate excuses.

By nature, we think of the reason why we can’t do something first, then structure our sentences in such a way that the reason why we can’t do something is followed by that negating word, but By taking a moment, then putting the excuse first, we’re acknowledging our resistance and immediately negating it with what we really want. This is perfect step for those that cannot let go of the resistance completely.

    For example:
“I want to go swimming but the water is too cold!”
    could become
“The water is too cold, but I really want to go swimming!”
