  • #Sustainability Summit#
Over the past 4 years, KC-BANCS has learned a lot about supporting college students with disabilities and veterans as they earn S.T.E.M. degrees and transition to careers. We would like to find ways to share what we have learned and help keep the work going.

  • The Sustainability Summit is a two-part meeting with the following objectives:

    • Share evidence-based, promising practices from KC-BANCS with collaborating partners

    • Determine how to use KC-BANCS’ last year to strategically support projects hosted at collaborating partner organizations that resonate with the goals of KC-BANCS

    • Identify the resources and supports within KC communities and partner organizations so that we help transition those who have participated in our programs the past four years

  • By the numbers

116 veterans have participated in Veterans in STEM
64 college students with disabilities have participated in STEM Scholars
47 workshops convened for college students
720 academic coaching sessions facilitated for college students
127 faculty and staff participated in Universal Design for Learning workshops
4 community conversations hosted for students, faculty, staff, businesses, nonprofit organizations
148 registrations for the community conversations

  • Purpose

    • Celebrate strengths

    • Identify a vision for the future

  • Agenda

    1. Icebreaker - penny icebreaker - draw a penny from a jar and look at the date. Answer this question: Where were you in the field of education the year that the penny was minted?
    2. Overview of the Sustainability Summit concept and the two events
    3. Landscape conversation - find a way to creatively facilitate people describing what has changed in the last 5 years
    4. Overview of program elements and the types of knowledge that we are gleaning
    5. Developing the sushi menu: how do we package what we can offer in a way that is useful and important to you? So that it can be used? Pondered? Dreamed on? What format would you like?
    6. Closing icebreaker: what will supports for college students with disabilities, for veterans, and workshops for faculty/staff be like in 2015?
Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel to Oct 21, 2015 in a flux capacitor-powered Delorean time machine.
