Although the top law firms in the UK continue to be Allen and Ovary L.L.P., Clifford Chance, Slaughter and May, Herbert Smith, Linklaters, Freshfields Bruckhaus Derringer, and DLA Piper L.L.P., more clients are moving to the Bristol-based firms of Burges and Salmon L.L.P. and Osborne Clarke. Clients move along the M4 corridor into Newport and Swansea in South Wales too, but the capital city Cardiff, misses out because of its relatively inaccessible geographical position, with clients in North Wales and Mid Wales often taking legal advice from English law firms.

Allen and ovary have 26 offices worldwide, and Clifford Chance is of course an international firm, as is DLA Piper. Bristol in South-West England and a stone’s throw from South Wales is reaping the rewards of the recession, with Burges and Salmon acting for the London Fire and Emergency and Commonwealth Office, and Osborne Clarke has clients such as Vodaphone and Motorola.

If you live in South Wales and are looking for a family lawyer, then your best bet could be the old, established firm of Harding Evans, which is ranked in the top tier of family lawyers in South and Mid-Wales. Ceri Price heads the department and the team is dedicated to getting the best deals possible for their clients.

Gabb and Co with offices in Abergavenny have one of the country’s top insolvency lawyers, John Price, and serve clients in Mid and North Wales. Pemberton’s L.L.P. is a well-known firm with family law specialists and they have offices in Bristol, Swindon, London, and Bath.
